Gives the egg more colour
Laying hen diets have contain sufficient yellow and red pigments to achieve the desired yolk colour. This desired yolk colour is in turn dependent on the market demand, usually geographically determined. Yolk pigments
(carotenoids) are present in raw materials such as maize and alfalfa. However, in order to realise a more intense red colour (a greater RYCF value), it is necessary to add synthetic red pigments to the feed.
